چکیده
Thyroid gland is the largest endocrine gland in the body. The thyroid gland produces hormones that regulate the metabolism rate, affect the growth and many functions of various organ systems. Nuclear medicine technique is very useful diagnostic tool in detecting thyroid disease. Thyroid scintigraphy can reveal functional and anatomic information of thyroid gland. A variety of radiopharmaceuticals and methodologies have been used over the years in nuclear medicine. Iodine-131 has been used to image the thyroid several decades. Radioactive Iodine I-131 is useful for the treatment of hyperthyroidism and thyroid cancer. There were 100 participants included in the study who were treated with I-131. The participants were checked 6 months and 12 months after the beginning of the treatment. The results show normalization of the laboratory parameters and hormonal status at the control examinations after 6 months and 12 months therapy with I-131. The side effects did not appear in any of the patients, which demonstrates safe application.

Changes in salivary gland function following radioiodine therapy of thyroid diseases: A comparison of high-dose therapy for thyroid cancer and low-dose therapy for benign thyroid disease
Introduction: High-dose radioactive iodine therapy in differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) may adversely affect the salivary gland function. This study is aimed to evaluate the effect of radioactive iodine (RAI) with dose of 100 mCi in DTC patients compared to lower doses of less than 30 mCi in hyperthyroid cases. Methods: Fifty four patients (13 men and 41 women) age: 42.3±14.3 (21-71) years w...
متن کاملI-131 Treatment of Graves' Disease in an Unsuspected First Trimester Pregnancy; the Potential for Adverse Effects on the Fetus and a Review of the Current Guidelines for Pregnancy Screening
Graves' disease is a thyroid-specific autoimmune disorder in which the body makes antibodies to the thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor leading to hyperthyroidism. Therapeutic options for the treatment of Graves' disease include medication, radioactive iodine ablation, and surgery. Radioactive iodine is absolutely contraindicated in pregnancy as exposure to I-131 to the fetal thyroid can resul...

BACKGROUND There is little information about the individual safety instructions provided by healthcare professionals to patients receiving radioactive iodine (I-131) therapy for the treatment of benign and malignant thyroid disorders or about whether these instructions are consistent across medical specialties. Currently, no national guidelines exist to standardize safety instructions related t...
متن کاملRecombinant human TSH and radioactive iodine therapy in the management of benign multinodular goiter.
Multinodular goiter (MNG) is a very common thyroid disorder determined by diverse goitrogenic factors, the most important one being iodine deficiency. The clinical presentation of a patient with MNG varies from a completely asymptomatic goiter to a life-threatening disease due to upper airway compression. Patients can develop underlying subclinical or overt hyperthyroidism due to autonomously h...
متن کاملRadiation dose of caregivers could be reduced in thyroid carcinoma patients requiring high dose of radioactive iodine: A case report
Undesired radiation exposure to caregivers is an important problem in radioiodine therapy in thyroid carcinoma patients, especially when patient is non-ambulatory. Special precautions are needed to keep the exposure to caregivers low when higher dose of radioiodine is necessary. Here we present a case-report of a 74-year old male patient with papillary thyroid carcinoma with local invasion and...
